Based Birthing

Birth is holy. Pregnancy, birth and parenting are natural expressions of life and who we are. This is an opportunity for transformation. Dr. Lisa and Dr. Susan help women and their partners remember this or discover it for the first time. Attending births at Mission Hospital, they help create and maintain a safe and sacred environment for all aspects of care during your pregnancy and beyond. Dr. Lisa and Dr. Susan midwive families through this experience and into parenthood, honoring and supporting the changes and growth that occur for pregnant women, their partners and their families. Many women who choose our practice are interested in birth with as little intervention as possible. We support and honor this approach. For example, as opposed to continuous fetal monitoring in labor, we recommend intermittent monitoring of the baby's heart rate during labor to assure that women and their babies move and find their own position for labor and birth. Large Jacuzzi tubs are also offered for both pain relief or birthing. If other medical technologies are needed, however, Dr. Lisa and Dr. Susan are able to integrate them seamlessly so that the woman and baby is always honored and considered in the process. While we do not perform c-sections, we do manage some high-risk situations and collaborate with local obstetricians and perinatalogists as needed.
